What Is Interfaith?

“Interfaith is not a religion. It walks among the religions. Interfaith begins when we create a bridge between one set of beliefs and traditions and another… An Interfaith Minister ideally is one who turns towards all, regardless of their beliefs or practices, with an open heart and mind, offering them a mirror to their own wholeness and their own divinity.” – OneSpirit Minister, Susanna Stefanachi Macomb

OneSpirit Interfaith Foundation is inclusive, embracing the universal truth at the heart of all spiritual traditions. We celebrate the values of respect, reconciliation, forgiveness and fellowship. We believe that difference, when approached as a potential source of enrichment, need not be experienced as a threat.

The Interfaith initiatives of the late twentieth century—the opening of dialogue and sharing of wisdom among leaders and practitioners of different religions – have flowered into an exciting new possibility for spiritual exploration and expression.

Beneath the diversity of theological beliefs, rites, and observances lies a deeper unity of experience that is our shared spiritual heritage. Mystical spirituality is the origin of all world religions, and every authentic spiritual path offers unique perspectives and rich insights into this deeper, direct experience of truth. In our time, the wisdom and depth of all paths are available to anyone who brings an open mind, generous spirit and heart to the search across traditions.

We wholeheartedly support the many interfaith initiatives that encourage dialogue and understanding between religions. We look for even deeper dimensions of unity, where we can recognise every human being as a facet of the One Spirit, a reflection of something in ourselves. We see the interfaith concept as a powerful invitation, not just to tolerance, but acceptance; not only to dialogue, but to community.
